HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

       
        The attire of the Malays nowadays was born from the growth and development of ancient people clothing. This process and development were due to the influence  from Indian trader, Chinese, Arab and Europe. All elements has been modified and merged into a rich cultural motifs and style. From this culture combination, it had produced natural, beautiful and unique Malay clothing which is still maintain its integrity until today. 

        Other factors that contributed to Malay garments, textiles as well as the accessories is the influeced of environment and weather. This can be clearly seen in the motifs of the Malay textile such as batik and songket. The motifs were stylization of the floral found in Malay land.
